Byung Gil Kim, a bass-baritone who has been active as a soloist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, located in the capital of Germany, Berlin, since 2019, graduated with a bachelor's degree from Kyungsung University in Busan before moving to Germany. He completed his master's degree in opera at the Stuttgart University of Music with excellent results. While continuing his studies in Stuttgart, he made his debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and Volkstheater Rostock, beginning to stand out on the European stage. During this time, he also received special recognition from the Semperoper Dresden at the prestigious International Belvedere Competition and won first place at the Gut Immling International Competition.
After completing his studies, he started to establish his presence on the European stage as a young artist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 2017 to 2019, performing in numerous operas. With his strong and deep voice, he has shared the stage with world-renowned vocalists such as Placido Domingo, Joseph Calleja, Diana Damrau, Vittorio Grigolo, and Sondra Radvanovsky, continuously growing in his craft. Recognized for his talent, he has been actively performing as a soloist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since late 2019.
Additionally, he has performed as a lead in major theaters around the world, including the Staatsoper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Royal Danish Theatre, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Teatre Principal de Palma, Oper Köln, Staatstheater Darmstadt, and Daegu Opera House. He has appeared in numerous operas, including the role of Zaccaria in "Nabucco," Raimondo in "Lucia di Lammermoor," Escamillo in "Carmen," Figaro in "Le Nozze di Figaro," Colline in "La Bohème," and the Four Villains in "Les Contes d’Hoffmann."
He is set to make his role debut in Wagner's opera "Lohengrin" in Germany in 2025 and will also perform the role of Figaro in "Le Nozze di Figaro," organized by the Korean National Opera.
